Laura Zepam 6: Green Eyes

Two nights ago, I had a dream in which Erykah Badu sang to me and my ex-boyfriend in a boat, in the middle of the ocean. I woke up feeling happy, not remembering exactly what she sang, but feeling good. I've been working on lucid dreaming for a long time now, and I knew that dream was special- not lucid, but close in that it was euphoric. I remembered every detail (except the melodies & words of those songs- I'm workin on that too) and wrote it all down in my dream journal. It felt like a good sign. I was in for a shock...

Last night, Stones Throw did their 2K8 thing at Highline. We got there late as usual, but saw Percee P, crazyass CX Kidtronix, Wolf doing his video DJ thing, J Rocc doing a beautiful set of Dilla originals, and of course, Madlib. I've seen the Stones Throw guys a million times now, so I wasn't expecting anything new. Madlib didn't look like his old eccentric self, but he acted like it, doing his normal routine of looking at the ground and turning around. This picture doesn't capture how blingy his jacket is, but they are great photos, by Mel D Cole
But I forgot his existence when they introduced the miraculous special guest: Erykah Badu.
I've always wanted to see her, but I knew it would mean paying over 50 bucks for a stadium seat. Her appearance was a total surprise; Highline was an intimate setting and it was incredible. She sang songs from her new album which will feature Madlib production (more on that later), plus Real Thing, and she had every person in the club, including me, talking about her ginormous ass.
I may have mentioned this before, but I'm a crier. I just tend to cry if I'm sad, happy, overwhelmed, or for no reason at all. And on rare occassions, music makes me cry. There was a certain line last night that made me tear up- "to all the girls on prescription pills, I know how you feel" - it spoke to me the same way Green Eyes does. She's crazy like me. =) In conclusion, it was the best concert I've ever been to. Everyone was great but E Badu overshadowed everything.

Wow, Lily, what a dream and what an experience. Hard to tell where one leaves off and the other begins.
You're not crazy. Just able to feel.
Keep your faith.

Music makes you cry because you love it. Not everyone experiences that much beauty and mystery. They're too busy keeping themselves in check to let the spirits work their magic on them.

this is funny, a public health advisory on Baduizm....
but don't jump up and scream, okay, it's a joke. EB actually responds (for real) and shows her rugged sense of humor.

P.S. Lily is dope
